Harlem, Ga--It's a sentiment echoed throughout the area as football teams are now in full stride getting ready for the season ahead. No different in harlem with long time coach Jimmy Lewis and the Bulldogs.
Harlem will have their hands full this year with plenty of new faces up and down the roster. A lot of these kids didn't play much a year ago. Coach Lewis will rely on guys like Edmond Jones, Terry Jenkins and Seth Hill to get the job done while the others get acclamated to varsity ball.
"I just try to make them have the right attitude. They try to come in and play around and stuff like that so I make sure everything is right" said senior Edmond Jones
"We lost some mighty good football players last year" said head coach Jimmy Lewis "Really and truely we're kind of young this year. The crowd is working hard and we're going to do the best we can do. Like I said we're young and inexperienced this year."
Harlem once again has the dubious distinction of playing a 4-A schedule. With realignment, they don't have to go to Sandersville and get the Augusta area schools. Making the playoffs will be tough, but unreasonable.
"It's going to be a region with tough teams and all but I think there's going to be a lot of parity. We feel like, and I'm sure every other team in our region feel like they have a good chance, along with us, to reach one of those top four spots."
Harlem opens the season against Greenbrier on September 5th.
