EVANS, Ga.---Until last Friday night, Evans had never beaten Statesboro in 9 previous meetings dating back to 1968. Until last Friday night, the Knights hadn't started a season 6-0 since 1987. And until last Friday night, senior wide receiver Jonathan Nicely was just a good football player with a fun last name. Now, in Evans at least, he's a legend. This after catching nearly every pass thrown on the game winning drive with time running out, including the go-ahead touchdown.
Nicely finished the game with 7 catches for 111 yards and the Knights only touchdown.
"I think we were pretty much relaxed the whole game," Nicely explains, "and our offensive line was doing a great job of holding people up and we just had to execute to get everything done."
Head coach Marty Jackson has seen a maturing in his big wide receiver over the years. "He's certainly worked hard and he's been a good leader for us," Jackson says,"and, not to say poeple can't make mistakes, but he's responded to adversity throughout the year. He's worked hard and he's worked his teammates hard and he's doing good."
And so is his team, thanks in large part to the big play of the big wide receiver, Jonathan Nicely, our Operation Football Live Player of the Week.
