Bears move on after Brigham

When Burke County needed a leader last season, Quarterback Terrell Brigham always seemed to get it done. For Brigham and the Bears, though, that time is gone.

Brigham is just one in a large senior class that Burke lost last season, but that hasn't slowed the bears recently. They've had a winning record eight of the last nine years, and with the offense Coach Eric Parker has, there's no reason to think that streak won't continue.

Parker says, "Terrell was the leader, but in our offense, we've always said it fits a couple of different styles. I think the biggest challenge for us right now is finding out which style is going to fit Corey Mayton best. So, that's still a little bit of a challenge. Just trying to find some offensive identity."

The Bears aren't just changing quarterbacks. They're changing regions as well, but Parker says that's nothing new for his squad.

"As much as we jump around in the Georgia High School Association, it seems like every two years it's totally different. So, this is actually a region we were in two years ago. I don't think it's going to be that big of an adjustment for us. We just need to play good football."

The schedule hasn't changed too much for Burke. The Bears still play two of the three teams that finished ahead of them in region play last season...Baldwin and Washington County.
