It's a challenge to be able to put together a competitive football program year to year. It's even more of a challenge to start from scratch.

That's what Grovetown did last year. Playing its first season of varsity football, the Warriors held their own, finishing 6-4.

The new challenge is to keep it going and become even better, and Grovetown is excited about that challenge.

Head Coach Rodney Holder says, "When you look at your successful programs in the area, they have benchmarks, and that's one of our benchmarks, to have a successful year and a winning year. When you're starting these programs, you have to teach them how to win. That's one of the components, and we got that done last year, we have to maintain that this year, and obviously we need to build on it. We don't want to be the same. We want to be better."

The Warriors aren't thinking small by any means. They want big things in year two, and it's all about sticking together as a team.

Senior Quarterback Xavier Crain says, "We have a different target now. Getting to state, that's our target now. So, if everybody gives the same pursuit for that goal, we're going to be good. "

The Warriors' offense is in good hands with Crain at the helm and a lot of speed at wide receiver. That combo could help improve on last year's 21 points per game.
