After four straight strong seasons, Ridge Spring-Monetta took a step back last year, finishing 2-8 and scoring only 128 points.
Part of the problem was experience. Another was depth.
The Trojans have no problem with experience this year, but with only 24 players, depth is still a serious problem, except for one position. The stable of running backs at monetta is clear full.
The top three backs return this year, and a third of the squad has carried the ball in the past.
Head Coach Mark Rodgers says, "We actually have eight that have toted the ball in games the last two years that are coming back this year. So, core-wise, in the back field, they know what to do if you give the ball to them."
With so many veteran running backs, Coach Rodgers knows exactly who he has to look to lead his team, and his backfield isn't stepping away from those expectations.
Senior Shareef Jerry says, "Coach said, 'Seniors, we need your leadership. That's all we need this year.' We just need to show our leadership because we've got plenty of seniors and we know what to do."
The Trojans had a winning record four straight seasons before last year, and with only one game against a team from a bigger region, Monetta could return to their winning ways in 2010.
