When a team comes one win short of a state championship, it's obvious what the goal is the next season. The challenge is living up to that goal.
Brentwood is in that very situation this season, and with heavy losses on both sides of the ball, it's going to be tough for the Eagles to return to the top of Georgia high school football. Coach Bert Brown admits there's a long road ahead.
Coach Brown said, "We've got a lot of holes to fill, especially on the defensive side of the ball. We lost eight starters, but you know, that's what makes it fun for us as coaches, the unknown and the mystery and the opportunity to rebuild."
For the Eagles, rebuilding is not an option. They have a thousand yard rusher back in three year starter Evan Wiggins, and he says, "I'd like to get back and win it this year. We're going to have to work hard the rest of the summer. We started it, then during camp and the first of the season. That's when it'll be hard, and we'll really have to work then."
Brentwood opens its quest for a state title against Mount De Sales, a new addition to the Eagles' schedule in 2010.
