LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) -- The Kentucky Horse Racing Commission has
given its OK to a request by Churchill Downs to run under the
lights this summer.
The commission Tuesday approved the Louisville track's post
times for its upcoming spring meet. Track official John Asher says
Churchill Downs wants to "test the waters" with nighttime racing
June 19 and June 26 -- both Fridays -- and Thursday, July 2.
First post would be 6 p.m., and the 11 races each night would
continue until about 11 p.m.
Churchill Downs isn't the first Kentucky track to host night
racing. A big portion of racing at Turfway Park is at night, and
the Friday night races that include $1 beer, hot dogs and wagers
have become some of the most popular at the northern Kentucky
track.
