BOSTON (AP) -- Boston College has fired Jeff Jagodzinski because
he interviewed for the New York Jets coaching job.

A person with knowledge of the decision tells The Associated
Press that Jagodzinski was fired Wednesday by athletic director Gene DeFilippo. The person spoke on condition on anonymity because the dismissal had not been announced.

DeFilippo had warned Jagodzinski on Saturday that his job would be in jeopardy if he went through with the interview. Jagodzinski met with the Jets on Tuesday night.

DeFilippo has said he wants a coach who will stay at the school long term. Jagodzinski has been with BC for two years and has three years left on his contract.
BC has called a news conference for later Wednesday.
