WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) -- Women's golf is feeling the pinch of a tough economy. The LPGA Tour is slashing three events and about $5 million in
purses as it looks ahead to the 2009 season. That puts the numbers at 31 tournaments and $55 million in prize money. Eleven of those events will be international tournaments.
The ADT Championship, which starts tomorrow and closes this year's slate, is among those being abandoned. Other events not continuing due to sponsorship issues include the Fields Open in Hawaii and Ginn Tribute in South Carolina. The LPGA is adding an event in Thailand from Feb. 26-March 1.
