Sunday, November 2, 2008. (AP) -- The Alabama Crimson Tide are now the number-1 team in the Associated Press Top-25 College Football Poll. The Tide, who are unbeaten in 9 games this season, replace Texas. The Longhorns suffered their first loss of the season yesterday to this week's second-ranked school, Texas Tech. Like Alabama, Tech is unbeaten in nine outings, as is Penn State, the third-ranked school this week.
Alabama was a heavy favorite in the balloting of sportscasters and writers as the Tide received 46 first-place votes to 12 for Texas Tech, 6 for Penn State and 1 for fourth-ranked Florida. The fifth-ranked team is Texas.
The second five this week features Oklahoma, Southern California, Oklahoma State, Boise State and Utah. Georgia is ranked 14th while Georgia Tech is ranked 22nd.
