METAIRIE, La. (AP) -- Joey Harrington's stay with the Saints was
a brief one. New Orleans has released the reserve quarterback five
days after signing him.

The Saints say that right now they can't afford to use a roster
spot on a third-string quarterback because they are short-handed at
other positions but that Harrington could be brought back later
this season.

The Saints signed tight end Sean Ryan to compensate for the loss
of Jeremy Shockey to a sports hernia. In addition to losing Shockey for three to six weeks, guard Jamar Nesbit has been suspended for four games for violating the NFL's policy on anabolic steroids and related substances. Earlier this week, the Saints re-signed offensive lineman Matt Lehr to make up for the loss of Nesbit.
