EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP) -- Off to an 0-and-2 start, the
Minnesota Vikings are benching quarterback Tarvaris Jackson. Coach Brad Childress says that Gus Frerotte will start Sunday against the Carolina Panthers.

Jackson completed just 51 percent of his passes over the opening
two games. Frerotte is a 37-year-old journeyman who was signed in the offseason to serve as Jackson's backup. Now he finds himself trying to turn around a team that had high expectations heading into the
2008 campaign.

Childress says that barring injury, Frerotte will be his signal
caller for the rest of the season. However, Childress adds that he
hasn't given up on the 25-year-old Jackson as an option for the
team's long-term future.
