Monday, August 18, 2008. (AP) -- Roger Federer's four-and-a-half-year reign atop the ATP world rankings is officially over. Rafael Nadal has taken over as the number one player, one day after winning the Olympic gold medal. Nadal has won six tournaments this year and heads to New York as the favorite to win the U.S. Open. Federer held the top spot for 235 weeks.
Serbia's Ana Ivanovic is back as the top player in the WTA rankings, climbing ahead of compatriot Jelena Jankovic. Jankovic was number one for seven days.
