Rose Goes First in NBA Draft

NEW YORK (AP) -- Derrick Rose is the first player selected in
tonight's NBA draft. The Chicago Bulls have taken the Memphis
guard, who came close to leading the Tigers to the National
Championship last season, He contributed 18 points, six rebounds
and eight assists in the title-game loss against Kansas. He was
named to the NCAA Tournament Final Four team after taking MVP
honors in the South Regional.

Rose averaged 14.9 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.7 assists in his
lone season with the Tigers, finishing second on the team in
scoring and first in assists. He came within one assist of a
triple-double against Gonzaga, ending up with 19 points and eight
rebounds. Rose scored at least 20 points nine times, with several
of those games coming in the NCAA tournament. Rose was named to the AP All-America Third Team and earned First Team honors in Conference USA. He also was the conference Freshman
of the Year and a Wooden Award finalist.
