Hockey Player's Condition Upgraded

Tuesday Feb 12, 2008
CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. (AP) -- Richard Zednik's condition has been
upgraded to good and doctors plan to take him out of an
intensive-care unit at a Buffalo hospital. The Florida Panthers
player suffered a near-fatal gash in his neck during the third
period of Sunday's game with the Sabres.
Meanwhile, 1,350 miles to the south, the Panthers returned to
the ice for their first practice since the jaw-dropping accident in
which Zednik was cut by the skate of a teammate. Florida returns to
game action tomorrow night against visiting Montreal.
Zednik isn't believed to have suffered any long-term brain or
nerve damage, and one surgeon describes him as "very lucky."
