SAN DIEGO (AP) -- Quarterback Philip Rivers of San Diego played
in yesterday's AFC Championship game after undergoing arthroscopic
surgery on his right knee last week. Rivers said today that the
knee is so badly injured that he knows it requires surgery on the
torn anterior cruciate ligament in the same joint.
Rivers suffered the injury to his knee two games ago when the
Chargers eliminated Indianapolis from the playoffs. He says he
should be ready for the start of training camp this summer.
Chargers' running back LaDainian Tomlinson says his left knee
does not require surgery. Tomlinson carried the ball only twice in
yesterday's loss to the New England Patriots. He was also injured
against the Colts in the second-round of the playoffs.
