Practice Heats Up For the Daytona 500

Daytona, Fl--The roar of the engine is once again being heard as NASCAR's gearing up for the new season and the 50th running of the Daytona 500. This past week, the first testing session at the famed racetrack. This year will also mark the first time the car of tomorrow will be run on every type of track, including superspeedways.

"They move around a lot." said driver Carl Edwards. "They slide and they stay loose and they're kind of a handfull to drive, at least mine is, to me thats fun, it makes the set up and a driver's race."

As usual, plenty of driver changes this year, including fan favorite Mark Martin, who's on the verge of retiring. Martin will drive for Dale Earnhardt Incorperated, a team that came on strong late in the year.

"I'm really excited." said veteran driver Mark Martin. "It's great to be back at the race track. I'm with a new group again, but i'm really excited about being with these guys. They're really charged up."

Current champ Jimmie Johnson was fastest in testing. The 50th Daytona 500 is February 17th
