Browns Crennel to be extended

BEREA, Ohio (AP) -- The Browns plan to extend coach Romeo
Crennel's contract as a reward for Cleveland's comeback season. That's straight from the mouth of general manager Phil Savage.

Crennel signed a five-year deal with the Browns in 2005. He began the 2007 campaign with his future in doubt after going 10-and-22 in his first two seasons in Cleveland. But after a terrible start, the Browns finished 10-and-6 and barely missed the AFC playoffs.

Savage also says the Browns have begun talks with quarterback
Derek Anderson's representatives on a long-term contract. Anderson
began the season as Cleveland's backup. He took over under center
after Charlie Fry was traded away following a disappointing showing
in the season opener and threw 29 touchdown passes. He's been
selected as a Pro Bowl alternate and Savage believes the 24-year-old Anderson, who is scheduled to become a restricted free agent, deserves to start again following his breakout season.

That would leave Brady Quinn waiting in the wings. The Browns selected the Notre Dame product in the first round of last year's draft.
