Westminster appoints new girls soccer coach

Augusta, GA-- Westminster Schools of Augusta has appointed Upper School Principal Joey Menendez as the new coach of the Wildcat girls varsity soccer team for the 2013 season. Menendez has been with Westminster since July 2012.

Menendez comes with 23 years of soccer playing and coaching experience, including playing club soccer at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill (UNC). He also coached the UNC club soccer team to a top eight finish at the 2001 National Club Soccer Tournament. As a coach, he holds the United States Soccer Federation National D license and has coached soccer at both the club and high school levels.

From 2002 until 2012, Menendez coached club soccer with the Triangle Futbol Club in North Carolina, taking the U-14 girls team to the Final Four in 2007. He was also on the coaching staff of the 2008 U-17 girls North Carolina state championship and regional semi-finalist team and the 2009 U-18 girls North Carolina state runner-up team.

At the high school level, Menendez was the girls varsity soccer coach at St. David's School in Raleigh, North Carolina, in 2006, 2007 and 2009–2012. While in this position, he coached one of the top North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Assocation (NCISAA) 2A programs in the state and was named 2011 Eastern Plains Independent Conference (EPIC) Coach of the Year. He was the assistant boys varsity coach from 2003–2006 and 2008–2011, during which time the team earned the NCISAA 2A State Championship in 2006 and 2009.
