CINCINNATI (AP) -- Reds reliever Jonathan Broxton is getting examined for a sore right elbow, leaving his status uncertain for a weekend series against the Milwaukee Brewers.
Broxton took the loss in a 14-inning, 6-5 defeat at Wrigley Field on Thursday. That left him 2-2 with a 4.33 ERA in 29 appearances.
Manager Dusty Baker said Friday that he had hoped not to use Broxton before the Reds returned home and he could be examined. The reliever signed a $21 million, three-year contract in the offseason.
Outfielder Chris Heisey worked out on Friday before the series opener against the Brewers, hoping he can start an injury rehabilitation assignment soon. He's been on the disabled list since April 29 because of a pulled right hamstring.
