April 18, 2014 AUGUSTA,GA-- Augusta Prep football celebrated a special signing Friday.
Senior Nate Pylant has been involved in many firsts for the Cavaliers program. On Friday, he became the first football player to sign a division one scholarship.
As Augusta Prep's program has grown, Pylant has grown along with it. The culmination of all the hard work, Pylant signing a scholarship with Mercer University.
Starting his football career in 8th grade, Pylant was part of the first Augusta Prep football team. He scored the first varsity touchdown for Prep. He was part of the first football state championship team at Augusta Prep.
Next year, he's moving to Mercer to help build their new program.
"I want to be able to look back on it and now that the success they're having right now. I helped grow that and I was there when it wasn't so easy and that's what I look forward to at Mercer," Pylant said.
To say Pylant was a big part of the Cavaliers 2013 state title team would be an understatement. Pylant was a leader on offense, defense and special teams.
In its second year as a program, Mercer football will be moving into the Southern Conference for football.
Pylant is looking forward to the next challenge.
