WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Winston-Salem State avenged a loss to the University of South Carolina Aiken men’s basketball team just nine days earlier with a 79-70 victory over the Pacers on Wednesday evening at the C.E. Gaines Center.

USC Aiken (2-1) had opened the two-game season series between the two teams by garnering a 98-84 victory over the then nationally 15th-ranked Rams at the Convocation Center on Monday, Nov. 19.

The contest on Wednesday evening against Winston-Salem State (4-2) was the first road game of the 2012-13 season for the Pacers.

Winston-Salem State entered the halftime break with a 41-23 lead.

The Pacers, who shot just 31 percent (9-for-29) as a team from the floor in the first half, would not roll over in the game, outscoring the Rams in the second half, 47-38.

USC Aiken’s strong 50 percent (16-for-32) shooting in the second half would not be enough though with Winston-Salem State holding on for the nine-point win.

USC Aiken closed out the game shooting 41 percent (25-for-61) as a team. Winston-Salem State shot 44.3 percent (27-for-61) as a team in its win over the Pacers.

The Pacers held a 13-6 advantage in the game in 3-point field goals made. USC Aiken shot 40.6 percent (13-of-32) from beyond the arc in the game.

Four Pacers finished in double figures in the contest with Santoine Butler (Augusta, Ga./Gardner-Webb) leading the way with a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Butler, who was 6-of-9 from the field in the game, also had two blocks.

Ronald Zimmerman (Columbia, S.C./Spring Valley HS) led all Pacers with 22 points. Zimmerman knocked down six treys in the game.
