Burke County moves forward after the Donquell Green era

Tuesday, August 18, 2014

Waynesboro, Ga--It's the life after Donquell era at Burke County. Gone is star Mr. Do-Everything Donquell Green. Is coach Eric Parker concerned, yes, is he pretty confident his team can still win a bunch, you bet. Just may take a few games to get everyone where they need to be.

While they lose a lot of playmakers besides Green, this team is ready to battle for a deep playoff run again. Doesn't matter if their outside on the practice field or in the gym, the work ethic is there. Parker says don't be surprised if a dozen guys get their hands on the ball in the early going. Remember, there is no "i" in team.

"Obviously we've had great players, they make you better, but I think at the end of the day people have to understand in the process and how important playing their roll is." said Eric Parker "This year, no doubt, we don't have that bonafide, marquee superstar, but we just have to try to do it by committee."

"Discipline is our big key this year. If all of us stay disciplined, we'll win games. We're trying to get past the third round. We got put out the third round two years in a row and we're trying to get past the third round." said Barqee Williams.

While the playoff losses motivates this team, the key will be up front. Plenty of new faces on the offensive line and coach Parker has some concern there. With those usual tough non-region games to start things off, they'll have to grow up in a hurry for the Bears to make another deep run.
