Augusta, Ga--It has been a tumultuous season for the RiverHawks. The firing of a coach two months in, the losing streak to start the year, and now it continues. An ice making problem at the James Brown Arena has forced the team to move this weeks games elsewhere.
The Hawks will now play at the Augusta Sports Ice Center on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday. The initial problem with the refridgeration system was found right after the home and garden show. After chiseling through the concerte near at center ice in front of the benches, the burst pipe was found. Unfortunately, it's not a quick fix like they had hoped.
"There are certain time constraints we have with the regular season ending quickly and dates obvisously jammed close together, it was impossible for us to reschedule these games and make it comforable for these guys where we're not playing four games in five nights or four games in four nights and risk an injury" said team president and head coach Mark Richards
The good news is the Hawks are use to the Augusta Sports Ice Center seeing that's where they practiced during the Futurity and when the arena was in use otherwise. Still, take out the comforts of their normal surroundings, and the playoff push just got a little tougher.
"We're going to have to make the best of limited space over there obvisously and try to make it as comfortable for those guys as we can and as well as our competitors and officials as well" said Richards "It's going to be a challenge, but we'll get it done."
As far as the fans go, there's only going to be seating for around 400 people and season ticket holders are getting first dibs. If you have any other individual game tickets, you can get a refund through the team or the James Brown Arena. Hawks take on knoxville tomorrow night at 7:30. They are hoping this will be fixed for next week.
