AUGUSTA, GA – The 2013 Augusta GreenJackets will have a new manager leading the team in 2013. The GreenJackets, in conjunction with the World Champion San Francisco Giants, announce that Mike Goff will be the field manager for the upcoming baseball season.
The GreenJackets will also see the return of Steve Kline as pitching coach. New to the club in 2013 is Hector Borg as the hitting coach.
In 2010, Goff skippered the AZL-Giants to a best overall record in the league for a second straight season. In 2008, Goff managed the double-A Chattanooga Lookouts, and prior to that, coached in the Seattle Mariners organization for 16 seasons. He served as the Mariners’ first base coach and was promoted to bench coach in 2007. Goff has also spent nine seasons as coordinator of instruction for the team’s minor league system. He began his coaching career in 1992 with double-A Jacksonville and spent his previous three years as an assistant coach at the University of South Alabama. Goff was an infielder in the Boston Red Sox system from 1984-88. He resides in Peoria, Arizona.
Kline will return to Augusta after a one year absence. He was the GreenJackets pitching coach in 2010 and 2011. The former big league southpaw spent the 2012 season as the San Jose Giants pitching coach.
Long regarded as one of the game’s most durable left-handed relief pitchers, Kline spent his last two Major League seasons in a Giants uniform. He ranks 15th on the all-time southpaw list with 796 lifetime appearances. His 89 appearances with St. Louis in 2001 was a Major League record at the time. Kline had a record of 34-39 with 39 saves and a 3.51 ERA in 11 Major League seasons. Besides the Giants, Kline played for Cleveland, Montreal, St. Louis and Baltimore. He resides in Winfield, PA.
Borg will begin his first season as the hitting coach for Augusta. The former infielder played for the GreenJackets in 2006. He spent last year as an infield instructor with Salem-Keizer. Previously he coached for four years with the Dominican Summer League Giants. Borg played four seasons in the minor league system with the Giants through 2007. He resides in La Romana, DR.
