AUGUSTA, Ga. – The GRU Augusta Women’s Golf team continues to climb the national poll as the No. 29th-ranked team according to Golfstat.com’s most recent NCAA Division I rankings that came out Wednesday, April 23rd.
Previously ranked No. 33rd, the Jaguars, led by head coach Kory Thompson, posted eight top-five finishes in the spring and are eyeing down a top 25 spot as they await the NCAA Regional selection. Southern California holds on to the number one spot, while UCLA, Duke, Arkansas, South Carolina, Arizona State, Oklahoma, Washington, Stanford, and Alabama finish out the top-10 teams.
The Jaguars ended the regular season in perfect fashion as the number one team in the field at the Rebel Intercollegiate, hosted by Ole Miss on April 4-6. Kennedy fired a 2-under 70 to lead the Rebel Intercollegiate after the first round, but Haigwood’s second-round 70 gave her a share of the lead heading into the third day. And she responded, carding the second-lowest round of the tournament – a 3-under 69 – to take her first collegiate victory by two strokes. Kennedy ended up tied for fourth at 1-under par, cementing the Jags at the top of the standings for their first win of the 2013-14 season and providing plenty of reason for optimism heading into postseason play.
