March 10, 2014 AIKEN, S.C. – The Jaguars opened play at the 17th-annual Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate at Palmetto Golf Club to finish the first day’s 36-holes tied for ninth on Monday in the 17-team field.
The par-70 course covers 6,617 yards and started with a shotgun round at 9:00 a.m. this morning. Sophomore Meechai Padung, who won GRU Augusta’s last event at the Forest Hills Golf Club, paced the Jags with a 70 and 76 to finish with a 146 to tie for 20th. Freshman Viktor Edin carded a 73 and 75 for a 148 score for 33 rd. Teammate and freshman Jake Marriott, who shot 76 and 72 for a 148, also tied for 33rd with Edin.
Sophomore Maverick Antcliff shot back-to-back 75 and senior Alex Wennstam signed for a 77 and 73 for each to finish 150 and tied for 47th. GRU tied with Liberty for ninth, while Clemson took the top-team spot followed by Virginia, South Carolina, Georgia State, and Wofford for the leading five squads.
The teams return Tuesday, March 11 for the final 18 holes of play. The entire tournament field includes: Akron, Chattanooga, Clemson, Elon, Francis Marion, Furman, Georgia State, GRU Augusta, Liberty, Maryland, Nebraska, NC State, Pennsylvania, Presbyterian College, USC Aiken, South Carolina, Virginia and Wofford.
