Evans, Ga--A lot of kids dream of being a pro athlete. Very few ever reach that dream. For Evans RaeKwon Bennett, the dream is very much alive and next week he could actually be playing in a game on a big league diamond
The rising Evans junior is one of 60 kids selected to be part of USA Baseball's Breakout Series in Houston. With both scouts from pretty much every major league team to college coaches on hand, this is a chance for bennett to really get noticed on a much higher level.
"I didn't know what to say when I first saw" said RaeKwon Bennett "I've dreamed of this ever since I was a little kid, I've seen it before and I was hoping, I was like, I wish I could be on this and now I have the chance to actually be on it, it's pretty amazing"
Bennett plays shortstop and hits in the middle of the Knights lineup. His heros, Jose Reyes and Jackie Robinson. He knows he has a chance to impress some folks in Houston and plans on taking every advantage of it, just the next step in chasing the dream.
"You know I want to be a major league baseball player. I just want to be, hopefully one of the greatest players. You know, have little kids look up to me, not just as a player on the field, but actually off the field too, just as a role model"
Bennett leaves Monday and they have a couple of days of workouts and games and then the top two teams in the event play the finals at Minute Maid Park, the home of the Houston Astros.
