Augusta, Ga--This deep into the state playoffs and it's kind of cool to have three schools with both their boys and girls basketball teams still playing. Laney, Washington County, and Curtis Baptist from the independent ranks.
The lady Crusaders may be the most unlikely bunch of them all as they play in the Georgia independent's final four later this week. No star power on this team, just a bunch of girls who are having fun playing basketball.. they play the two time defending champs of Crisp and have absolutely no pressure on their shoulders.
"It feels good not to have the pressure and just be able to go out there and play the best basketball we can and wait and see how it turns out." said coach Maria Swanson "The last three games we've won in the last minutes of the games and they have shown the most focused and determination of any group I've ever coached."
"I feel we're now coming together and playing as a team instead of at the beginning when we weren't really together."
The lady Crusaders are pretty much a year ahead of schedule with just one senior on the team and a host of juniors. They'll tip it off against Crisp Thursday at 1 at Mercer College. The boys of Curtis take on Georgia Christian Friday at 1.
