Augusta, GA (April 2, 2013) – The Augusta Sports Council (ASC) is thrilled to announce legendary major league baseball player Chipper Jones will be the special guest speaker for the 22nd Annual Greater Augusta Medals for Excellence in Sports (G.A.M.E.S.) Awards banquet on Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at the Augusta Marriott at the Convention Center.
Chipper Jones joined the Atlanta Braves in 1995 as the starting third baseman which ultimately lead to the Braves’ World Championship that year. Jones is an 8-time All-Star with 468 home runs, over 1600 RBI’s, a .303 career batting average in over 2,500 games played. He was voted the National League MVP in 1999 and is expected to be a first ballot Hall-of-Famer. Jones will be remembered as one of the best switch hitters and third basemen to play the game.
Jones will share his story with the recipients of the 2013 G.A.M.E.S. Awards. Created in 1992, the G.A.M.E.S. Awards program highlights the outstanding amateur athletes who represent a broad spectrum of sports disciplines in the CSRA, and awards two scholarships to rising college freshmen. Awards are presented to high school athletes in the categories of All-Around Athlete, Outstanding Athlete, Rising Star and Outstanding Team. Special recognition is also paid to an outstanding high school coach, officials, in addition to club sport, collegiate and adaptive athletes.

The ASC is now accepting nominations for the 2013 G.A.M.E.S. Awards. All nominees must be at least of high school age and residents of Richmond, Columbia, McDuffie, Burke or Aiken Counties.
