AUGUSTA, Ga. -- News 12 just spoke with Augusta National Golf Club representatives who tell us all gates are now open. The course was closed until 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Heavy winds, rain and lightning swept through the Augusta metro area just before midnight. The winds of up to 60 miles an hour brought down trees near Augusta National and flooded the gates. Vendor tents were also blown over and temporary fences were knocked down.
Gates usually open at 8 a.m., but Augusta National had to implement a half hour delay this morning while they assessed and cleared debris scattered throughout the course.
Richmond County deputies do say there are no road closures because of the storm. Traffic in front of the National on Washington Road and Berckmans is moving smoothly so far. The debris on the roadway there has already been cleared.
