AUGUSTA, Ga. -- For a number of years now, the big three, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, and Gary Player have teed it up together in the par three contest. While I'm sure they will again tomorrow, the trio will also tee it up Thursday.
This year the "Black Knight" joins the "Golden Bear" and "The King" as honorary starters. Palmer had a couple of years by himself, Nicklaus joined him two years later. Now Palmer completes the trio and still has some competitive juices left in him.
"We were so competitive, we wanted to beat each other so badly and we did beat each other a lot of occasions: in medal tournaments, in match play events and we had our share of beating each other," Player said. "But the nice thing about it, when we did lose, we looked the other in the eye and said well done but I'll get you next week.
All together, the trio has 350-plus worldwide wins.
