Former Georgia Bulldog leads Masters amateurs

Monday April 2, 2012

Augusta, Ga--The Masters and its amateur players go hand-in-hand each year. One huge part of the tournament is giving six amateur champions the shot to compete with the big boys. This year, a couple of those are from our own back yard.

Clemson's Corbin Mills is a guy that hit our radar when he won the Public Links Amateur last year. Joining him is former georgia golfer Bryden Macpherson. The aussie took home the British Amateur, and afterward, he gained immediate fame in Athens.

"As soon as I got back to UGA for the fall semester, it started to sink in. Everyone was like, 'Oh that's that guy that's playing the Masters.' 'Are you playing the Masters?' I'm like, 'Yeah, I guess I am,' you know? It's been pretty amazing."

Four other amateurs in the field include one of the oldest ever, 54 year-old Randal Lewis, and last year's low amateur, Hideki Matsuyama.
