City restaurants getting ready for Masters Week

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- "We've been fortunate enough to be busy since the day we opened the doors," said Darby Carpenter, general manager at Farmhaus Burgers in downtown Augusta.

It's been six weeks since his business opened, but they opened in plenty of time for one of the biggest weeks of the year.

"Masters Weeks is bigger for everyone in the restaurant business in Augusta," he said.

It may be a first Masters for his business but not for him.

"For years, there weren't any great restaurants in downtown Augusta, now we've got Frog Hollow, Farmhaus, we've got a lot of really great stuff downtown Augusta," he told News 12.

But restaurants all over can get a little congested.

"You can't even get in on Masters Week," said Gayle Garry, a resident of Augusta.

She knows how crazy it can get, so her group of friends are grabbing a drink and a bite to eat to celebrate the beginning of an Augusta tradition.

And a week like this can really be good for the city.

"I think it's great for the downtown area, I think it brings in business, it brings in celebrities, and it puts us on the map," she said.

More importantly, it puts first-timers like Farmhaus on the map.

"They're professionals at golf, we're professionals at our business," Carpenter said.

And he knows it's not just about the money.

"One of the most fun parts about Masters Week is you get to meet so many different people from everywhere in the world as they come to your restaurant," Carpenter said.

It's about the friends you meet.

"We're so new, we hope to make some long-lasting relationships with our friends from around the world," he said.
