Augusta, Ga--US Open champ Lucas Glover has a big time local feel to the man carrying his bag. Don Cooper lives in North Augusta.
"I use to caddy here in Augusta growing up" said Don Cooper "Was caddying on the Nationwide Tour. Met up, found out we had a lot in common and hooked up and it's all been good since then"
What a tour its been for Cooper since taking over on a full time basis. This past year was by far his best with Glover winning the US Open. You see Glover and Cooper had made a deal about the next win. That didn't exactly go as planned.
"There was a deal between he and I that the next tournament win, I would purchase a Corvette. But my children and all grew up and the priorities change as you get older. So no there was not a Corvette purchased.
Family first, the rest later. Of course there are times when caddy and player have a disagreement on certain shots. Usually doesn't last long.
"I don't view Coop as working for me, we work together" said Lucas Glover "We've done good together and had some success. He's a great man and I'm glad he's part of my life."
"He plays quick so we have to disagree quick and agree quick" add Cooper "We trust one another and that's what we build our partnership on is trust."
Cooper use to live in McCormick before his move to North Augusta. While winning one major was a big goal, there are others.
"Just it's a dream come true and there's a couple of more I can think of that I'd like to have a little bit but it (winning the US Open) was surreal." added Cooper
