AUGUSTA---The biggest news of the day so far came from off the course. Raymond Floyd, the 1976 Masters champ, withdrew from the field today and said his Masters career is over after 44 years.

"It's the end of an era," he said. "I've always enjoyed it. It's a very special place. I have the fondest of memories of all of my 44 appearances."

Floyd says he will play in the Par 3 Tournament tomorrow, but no more Masters for him. What a loss for the Tournament.

Floyd's retirement brings the field down to 96.
