AUGUSTA---Today wasn't the best of days for former Masters champ Larry Mize, but it could have been a lot worse.
Mize ran into some bad luck on the first hole and ended up with a double bogey. He rallied for a couple birdies right after that. By the time the round had ended, he had four more bogeys, ending at 76. Despite the rough day, he's one under and only eight behind the leader, Chad Campbell.
"You know, wish I'd shot a little better, but you know, 76, there's still a lot of positives out there," Mize said. "I got a bad break on the first hole to made double, came back with a couple of birdies."
"Like I said yesterday, you gotta keep the birdies coming, and the birdies didn't keep coming," he went on. "So I kind of lost a little momentum and struggled coming in, but there's still a lot of good stuff, and I'm looking forward to the weekend."
