AUGUSTA---You don't hear a lot of guys saying they want to win the Par 3 Contest. Usually it's just the opposite, since no one has ever won the Par 3 and gone on to win a green jacket. But the Par 3 is for fun, and for many a walk down memory lane.
Once again, the true legends of the game, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer played together. This year will mark Player's final appearance in the Tournament.
Today is also about family. Usually brothers, sisters, and little kids can be found playing the role of caddies. Sometimes the guys will pull someone out of the crowd to try and sink a putt...proving it's not as easy as it looks.
And of course, the players come hoping for holes in one. The final tally on that was three: John Merrick, Greg Norman, and Tim Clark. Tim Clark also ended up winning the Par 3 Contest.
The most exciting shot, though, came from Gary Player, who skipped his ball across the water and right into the bottom of the jar on 9. Unfortunately he missed on his first try, so it wasn't a hole in one.
