Kids line up for golfer autographs

April 7, 2009

AUGUSTA---One of the great things about the Masters experience is that it gives you an up close and personal look at the players. This year there's something brand new for kids at Augusta National: an autograph area.

News 12 saw Hunter Mahan signing autographs today in the new autograph zone. It's a spot only for kids, to let them get golfers' autographs. You have to be 16 years old or younger to be in this area, which is near the driving range.

The autograph zone is new this year, and it was a big hit with the kids.

"I'm trying to get people so I can go home and show my parents," said Alex Crow of Augusta.

"I got three, and...I really don't know who they're from," laughed Ashley Suffolk of Pennsylvania. "But it's just cool to have autographs."

"Do you know any of these people here?" we asked Josh Suffolk, also of Pennsylvania.

"Not really," Josh said. "I'm just trying to get every golfer that I can."

Kids can get in on a patron's badge on Tournament days. The new autograph zone goes right along with that in the National's efforts to make the Masters more kid-friendly.

A lot of the kids wanted to see Tiger Woods. Unfortunately Woods did not practice today, though he did appear at a news conference.
