Masters arrival mark the start of Masters week

Sunday April 5, 2009

AUGUSTA, GA--There will be plenty of buzz around Augusta National Monday, but Sunday is a great day for the early arrivals at the National

It's part of Masters week very few people ever see, last minute touchups jobs here at the course. From the prunning of the flowers at Foundry Circle to the painting of the top of the clubhouse.

While the workers are in full gear putting final touches on the flowers and the course, Sunday for the players can be somewhat relaxing. Everyone though also realizes there's work to be done.

"I didn't play well at Bay Hill" said Fred Furyk "I had a week off to work on those and try to get my game ready for here."

Whether you're a Green jacket veteran like Bernhard Langer or an amateur like Drew Kittleson, the course has special meaning to all.

"It's on a fantastic golf course where every blade of grass is in order" said former Masters champ Bernhard Langer "Players just dream to be playing in it and to be here for the rest of your life is just an awesome feeling"

"It's really a dream come true" said amateur Drew Kittleson "It's something you work hard for as an amateur and something to strive for. It's all become reality here this week."

Phil Mickelson, after his struggles in Houston this week, hitting the practice range, not letting his recent play get him down.

"I think playing the week before is important for me." said Phil Mickelson "It gives me a chance to see where my game is at, what I'm doing right, what I'm doing wrong. I made some dumb mistakes last week and it's good to have played and get it out of the system and work on it for this week."

You could even find current Masters champ Trevor Immeman hitting pitch shot after pitch shot in the solitude found at Augusta National knowing it all changes Monday morning.
