Profile: Masters Rookie Carl Pettersson

Hailing from Sweden, Carl Pettersson has already been a world traveler. He moved to England when he was 10, then made the trek across the pond to Greensboro, North Carolina. All by the ripe old age of 18.

Pettersson says, "I've experienced a lot of different cultures and as a young kid moving place to place, you're not really afraid of going to different places, so it's a good experience."

A Masters rookie, Pettersson played his college golf at N.C. State, one of the best conferences around.

"N.C. State is in the ACC, and the ACC is one of the best conferences for golf...a lot of good schools. I've played a lot of good college tournaments," Pettersson says.

Pettersson still keeps up with his Wolfpack and writes blogs for the program every now and then...and when he's home, a trip to a football or basketball game isn't out of the question.

"I try to keep up with N.C. State and see how they're doing and stuff like that, and try to go to a few football games when I'm home," he says.

Last year was his best on tour. He won the Chrysler Classic by a shot. That victory took a lot of pressure off his shoulders.

"A lot of hard work...I'm glad I managed to get it done, and it was a tough course and a lot of pressure, but it was a relief, really. I've had a few chances before and hadn't pulled it off so it was nice knowing I could do it," Pettersson says.

His best finish this year, 7th at the Nissan Open. A good showing at the National would just add to a growing resume.

"I'm looking forward to playing...it'll be different."
