Bill Haas leads Masters

Updated: 04/10/2014 - AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) — The conditions are ideal and a slew of golfers are taking advantage of it on day one at The Masters. Bill Haas leads the pack with an opening 4-under 68 that included six birdies. His final one came on the 18th hole and gave him the clubhouse lead. Haas' great uncle, Bob Goalby, was the 1968 Masters champ and his father, Jay, was a longtime Masters participant. Defending champ Adam Scott felt right at home in his return to Augusta National, shooting a 69. He's trying to become the fourth back-to-back winner in Masters history and the first Tiger Woods did it in 2002. A number of the record 24 first-time Masters invitees are in a group at 70, including Kevin Stadler, son of 1982 winner, Craig. Kevin and Craig are the first father and son to compete in the same Masters. Craig shot 82. Fifty-four year old Fred Couples continues to play well at Augusta National shooting a 71 to trail by three. He led after the second round two years ago, after the first round in 2010 and won in 1992. Copyright 2014 The Associated Press
