Lady Pacers Fall In Latest Poll

AIKEN, S.C.--Despite a stumble at North Georgia on Saturday, the USC Aiken Lady Pacers (8-2) remained in the top 25 poll, slipping three spots to 23rd in the sixth in-season edition of the USA Today/ESPN/WBCA Top 25 Coaches Poll, released Tuesday afternoon.

Tigers on top after BCS win;Georgia 2nd

LSU has become The Associated Press national champion in college football following the Tigers' 38-24 rout of Ohio State in the BCS title game. But Georgia, Southern Cal and Kansas picked up first-place votes following their impressive bowl-game victories.

Lynx Get Some Reinforcements

Augusta Lynx head coach Bob Ferguson has a little more to smile about now a days...Especially knowing the offensive reinforcements are on the way. Ryan Dingle who was sent back from the A.H.L. late last week and All Star Aaron Slattengren are both expected in uniform Tuesday night.

CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) -- What a way for Number 1 North Carolina to start the Atlantic Coast Conference season. Wayne Ellington's 3-pointer with 0.4 seconds left in overtime lifted the top-ranked Tar Heels to a 90-88 victory over 19th-ranked Clemson.

Lynx Lose Another Scorer

Augusta Lynx Head Coach Bob Ferguson announced today that forward John Laliberte has signed a professional tryout contract with the Milwaukee Admirals of the American Hockey League. Laliberte becomes the fourth Lynx player in the month of December alone to be called up to the AHL. He joins Matt Christie and Ryan Dingle, who are with the Portland Pirates, and Aaron Slattengren who is with the Manitoba Moose.

Falcons Drop Another One

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) -- Neil Rackers gained a measure of redemption and sent the Atlanta Falcons to another loss in their demoralizing season. Rackers kicked a 29-yard field goal to force overtime, then booted one from 31 yards on the first possession of the extra session to give the relieved Arizona Cardinals a 30-to-27 victory today.

Thomas in the Falcons' driver's seat for now

Atlanta Falcons assistant Emmitt Thomas has been promoted to interim head coach for the final three games of the regular season. He replaces Bobby Petrino, who resigned yesterday to become coach at Arkansas.
