Pacers sweep GC&SU in Peach Belt action

AIKEN, S.C. – Re'mon Nelson became the 10th player in USC Aiken's NCAA Division II era to score 1,000 points and the Pacers claimed an 87-70 Peach Belt Conference victory over Georgia College at the Convocation Center on Thursday evening.

USC Aiken (11-5, 7-2 PBC) with the victory over Georgia College (6-10, 2-7 PBC) now has a half-game lead over Armstrong Atlantic State (10-5, 6-2 PBC) for first place in the Peach Belt Conference East Division.

Nelson (Columbus, Ohio/Canal Winchester HS), who finished the contest with a game-high tying 18 points, now has 1,013 points in his USC Aiken career. The senior point guard scored 16 of his 18 points in the second half.

USC Aiken's all-time leader in steals also had a game-high seven assists to go along with three rebounds, one block and a steal. The seven assists moved him into second place in the USC Aiken men's basketball record books for all-time assists. Nelson presently has 425 assists in his four-year career. He needs just 15 assists to become USC Aiken's all-time leader in the category.

AIKEN, S.C. – The nationally sixth-ranked University of South Carolina Aiken women’s basketball team allowed a season low 39 points in a 59-39 Peach Belt Conference victory over Georgia College on Thursday evening at the Convocation Center.

The 39 points allowed in the game by the Pacers was just five points more than a Pacer women’s basketball squad has ever allowed in a league game. USC Aiken only allowed Augusta State 34 points in a Pacer victory over the Jaguars on Dec. 1, 2001.

USC Aiken (14-2, 7-2 PBC) led from start-to-finish in the conference win over Georgia College (9-7, 5-4 PBC).

The Pacers with the victory now lead the Peach Belt Conference East Division by a half-game over Augusta State (13-2, 6-2 PBC).

USC Aiken closed out the win over Georgia College shooting 51.1 percent (24-for-47) as a team. The Pacers held the Bobcats to just 31.7 percent (13-for-41) shooting as a team.

USC Aiken ended the game shooting 42.9 percent (6-for-14) from beyond the arc as a team. USC Aiken made five of its seven (71.4 percent) free throw attempts in the game.

Georgia College shot just 33.3 percent (4-of-12) from beyond the arc. The Bobcats shot 56.3 (9-for-16) from the charity stripe as a team in their loss.
