Sometimes looking at a team's record alone doesn't tell the whole story of a season. That's the case with last year's Midland Valley football team.

The numbers say 4-7, but with a 4-3 finish, the Mustangs have reason for optimism this time around.

It all started Week Five when Rick Knight turned to freshman
Daniel Carr to go under center.

That move proved brilliant with Carr becoming one of the most dangerous mobile quarterbacks around. Even better is that almost all the other weapons are back too.

Because of that, expectations in the Valley are extremely high.

"Everybody is thinking our expectations are supposed to be higher than they are, so we need to put them back up there where they used to be," said senior linebacker Garret Boatwright. "We're just going to have to put in the work everyday at practice."

Coach Knight added, "With the enthusiasm the way it is - and the kids are working extremely hard, they're great kids - I think we're ready to take another step."

The Mustangs expect to compete for a region championship but it won't be easy with them matching up with always powerful Strom Thurmond.
