Augusta, Ga--For a lot of golfers, playing Pebble Beach is a lifelong dream, one of those items on the bucket list. Well, for a Westside senior, he can give a big thanks to the first tee program as he will be teeing it up next week in California.
Jason Murphy is walking, living proof The First Tee program works. He admits he wasn't the best of kids but the values the program teaches turned his life around. Now, he's been selected as one of the kids nationwide to play with a Champions Tour player at Pebble Beach next weekend. His reaction when he found out he was selected speaks volumes.
"I actually started crying" said Jason Murphy "I was in Athens with my friend Ricky, we had went shopping up there and we sat down to eat and I looked at my email and I just started crying for no reason. My friend was like, what's wrong, I was like nothing's wrong, and then I called my mom and she was very happy"
Over the years The First Tee of Augusta has now seen a half dozen kids selected to play in the Nature Valley First Tee Open. Murphy is also hoping some college coaches take notice of his game as he'd love to play at the next level.
