Watts named SIAC player of the week

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) has announced the Basketball Players of the Week for week ten of the 2013-14 basketball season. Paine’s Ashley Watts was named Player of the Week.

The junior guard averaged 23.5 points, five assists and three rebounds against Kentucky State and Fort Valley last week. She scored 29 points against the Thorobrettes and 18 against the Lady Wildcats. Against the Thorobrettes, Watts was perfect at the free throw line making all 10 of her free throws. She also shot 60 percent from behind the arc nailing three three-point shots.

Watts still leads Division II women’s basketball in points per game (27.3 per game) and is back in the top spot for three-pointers per game (4.0 per game). The Augusta native also scored her 1,000th point in the team’s last game against Albany State. Watts now has 1,008 points over one and a half seasons as a Lady Lion.
