Evans, Ga--On the softball field, Greenbrier is rarely a team you could consider "under the radar," but this year, the term fits. The Wolfpack started the summer needing to replace five seniors and expectations outside the dugout were lower than they have been in awhile.
No shock, the lady Wolfpack have blown those doubts out of the water. The young team is thriving with their new found underdog mentality, winning the region championship and now advancing to Columbus and the elite eight. And if you ask them, being able to surprise some people can be pretty fun.
"No one thought we could do it because we have such a young team, and they're all inexperienced with high school ball. We've just kind of pulled it out and surprised everyone."
"We've kind of come in under the radar, and I think we're probably coming in under the radar in Columbus as well. I tell you what, though. I wouldn't count these kids out. They've surprised me this year as well."
The ladies match up with Pope in the elite eight. Greenbrier has one state championship. That was in 2004.
