USCA's Byers named PBC volleyballer of the week

AUGUSTA, Ga. – University of South Carolina Aiken senior volleyball player Shannon Byers has been tabbed as the Peach Belt Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for the second consecutive week.

The league office made the announcement on Monday, Oct. 8, 2012.

Byers averaged 3.12 kills and 2.00 digs per set in USC Aiken’s two victories last week.

In USC Aiken’s 3-0 win over Peach Belt Conference foe Montevallo, Byers ended her efforts with nine kills, five digs, a service ace and a block.

In USC Aiken’s 3-2 five-set victory over the University of Alabama in Huntsville, Byers claimed 16 kills and 11 digs. She hit .389 in the win over UAH.

Byers (Morristown, Minn./Faribault HS) is currently 10th in the Peach Belt Conference with 2.79 kills per set.

Byers and the rest of the USC Aiken volleyball team begins the upcoming week in the midst of an 11-match winning streak.

The Pacers have three road matches this week, beginning with a road match at Lander at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 10.

USC Aiken (15-5, 4-0 PBC) will then close out its week with Peach Belt Conference showdowns with Flagler and Armstrong, who join USC Aiken as a perfect 4-0 in league play currently.

The Pacers will first face off against Flagler at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 12 in St. Augustine, Fla. One day later, USC Aiken will take on Armstrong at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13 in Savannah, Ga.
