AUGUSTA, Ga. – University of South Carolina Aiken freshman volleyball player Ashley Deidrich has been chosen as the Peach Belt Conference Volleyball Player of the Week.
The league office made the announcement on Monday, Sept. 17, 2012.
Deidrich is the first Pacer volleyball player to earn league Player of the Week plaudits since Stefanie Durham was chosen Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week on September 22, 2008.
Deidrich averaged 2.38 kills, 1.38 digs and 0.77 blocks per set in a 2-1 week for the Pacers last week. In total, Deidrich closed out USC Aiken’s three matches at the Lees-McRae Tournament with 31 kills, 18 digs and 10 blocks. She also had two service aces on the week.
Deidrich claimed 13 kills and hit .345 in USC Aiken’s 3-2 loss to King. She followed that up by claiming nine kills each in wins over Lees-McRae and North Greenville. She had six blocks in the Pacer win over the Crusaders.
Deidrich (Orlando, Fla./Dr. Phillips HS) closed out the three matches hitting .238.
The freshman outside hitter is now sixth in the Peach Belt Conference in kills. She is seventh in the conference in total blocks and aces.
Deidrich and USC Aiken (6-5) will next travel to Charlotte, N.C. to play in the Johnson C. Smith Tournament on Friday, Sept. 21 and Saturday, Sept. 22. USC Aiken will open the tournament with a 1 p.m. match against Johnson C. Smith on Friday, Sept. 21.
The Pacers will close the tournament with two matches on Saturday, Sept. 22. USC Aiken will first face tournament host Johnson C. Smith at 11 a.m. The Pacers will conclude the tournament with a 1 p.m. match against St. Augustine's.
